Outside the Box - It is Spring

I call this card OUTSIDE THE BOX -IT IS SPRING. I have been stamping and making cards for almost 20 years.  Creating is one of my passions. I made a card last week that I really liked.I posted it on Splitcoast Stampers.  Someone left me a comment on that card, about my "signature look". As I thought about that comment, I realized it was really a statement about how I was getting into a rut. So today I decided to make a card and to try to do lots of new things and to try and make it different from other cards that I have made recently.

My biggest step outside my comfort zone was to make a card that for the most part is flat. I love making dimensional cards.(the kind that cost a lot to mail) I don't remember the last time I made a card that I didn't cut the butterflies out and have them looking like they just landed on the paper.
How I made this card. I took an encyclopedia page. I glued some sheet music to the top and bottom. I printed a scripture (Song of Solomon 2-10-13)  and glued that to the page. I stamped flourishes. I also stamped two butterflies and cut them out and glued them down.( I quickly cut them and this left a little bit of a halo-something I would do different next time.) Then I scanned the page with the elements using my computer and I shrank it to fit on a 4 1/4 x 5 1/2 card I printed it on plain white cardstock.

I watercolored the background and  the butterflies. I stamped the flowers . The flowers are mostly a silhouette so I took white paint and went over the flowers. Then I added color over the white. I used stamps to add the "hello" and "spring". I added highlights with a white colored pencil. I matted the card with a piece of black cardstock. I used deckle edges scissors. I went over the edges with the white colored pencil to look kinda like chalk on a chalk board.

When was the last time you tried something NEW or DIFFERENT?  Maybe today is the day to do that.
