National Coloring Book Day with Mountain Plains Crafters

August 2nd is celebrated as National Coloring Book Day.  Dover publications claims in 1970, they released the first adult coloring book.    Adult coloring books are hot, hot, hot right now.  They are purported to be stress reducers, particularly due to the fast paced, technology induced world in which we live.  Coloring is relaxing.  Give it a try!  You can find coloring books just about anywhere these days.  Most craft stores and even some book stores carry a wide selection.

Today, our design team is coloring with ADORNit Art Play Paintables.  These beauties can be colored with coloring pencils, watercolors, markers... just about any coloring medium will do.

We're all a little excited that ADORNit will soon be coming out with their own coloring books, featuring several well known artists.  We'll have more about that in coming days.  For now, enjoy the coloring inspiration from our design team and get coloring!

Be sure you're following us in our Facebook Community page for fun and giveaways!

I've colored up this pretty girl, using an ADORNit Art Play Paintables image from the Ladybug collection, designed by artist Lindsay Ostrom.  Click on my name to get all the details and more photos.  I've used Zig Clean Color pens and love the bold, brilliant color that gives this fun image such a colorful boost.

Pam
I put this fun image/sentiment on an 8 1/2 by 11 canvas. I used SU! markers and occasionally added the color using an acrylic block to put the ink on and then picking up the color with an aqua painter. I painted the canvas with purple acrylic paint and used mat mod podge to adhere to canvas and then painted the mod podge over it as well...I wanted it to look a wee bit distressedso I let some of ink and paint run intentionally. I added a pretty and a glitter brad. My MacKenna will take this back to school.

Here's a quick peek at one of my projects I created with Adornit's Artplay.  These images are so cute and fun to color.  And adding embellishments makes it even more fun, as I did with the sequins in the tree. :) Click on my name to see my other coloring projects I did

I altered a FLOW Weekly to use as my planner for the rest of the year. The Adornit Artplay image of "What's Happening?" was the perfect one. Check out my blog post by clicking on my name--you will  see some other coloring projects of mine as well as some of the images inside my FLOW Weekly...

Over-sized Shaker card

This cute shaker card was made from the plastic packaging from an embossing folder.  Some crafters make shaker cards look so easy but for me, I tend to struggle with it.  Totally not my thing!  But I really wanted to give this a shot.  I think it turned out alright.  What do you think?

My Take on "The Shake"....

dEb here and I have a confession to make..... I absolutely LOVE shaker cards... I watch how-to videos, collect pictures of them, find them on Pinterest etc.... I have everything I need to make them.. Just bought the foam mounting tape last week. Sat down to make one this morning and somehow got distracted by these cute little envelopes I have had for awhile...Does this happen to any of you ?? I call it my Creative ADD...  I sit down to make 1 thing that is all settled in my mind and end up with something completely different... Like today's Shaker card... I had some of my Project Life  journal cards on my desk and put it in the clear envelope..Perfect fit--even had enough room to fold the end back... Then I spotted the literally thousands of sequins I have and VOILA !! My card was born..  The supplies were meant to go together.. It was like peanut butter & jelly, Barnes & Noble, Ben & Jerry's ..... I am already thinking ahead to more of these cards... I have some fabulous metallic sequins. They would be great for beachy cards... I can envision autumn colors, Christmas -- the possibilities are endless.... I still want to try a traditional shaker card but I am thrilled with MY take on the "shake"....Now if only I could remember where I got those little envelopes... Google, here I come !!
